About Me

Hi, my name is Melynn! I'm a graphic designer and technical illustrator turned ceramic artist about 18 years ago. Plum Island Transfers was born during the first winter of COVID when there were no craft shows on the horizon and the future looked bleak and uncertain. Needing something to distract myself with, I decided to get back on the computer, design some patterns, and teach myself how to silk-screen them onto newsprint and rice paper using underglazes. Then came the task of learning how to transfer them to clay. Little did I know a year later, I would be producing the prints for other ceramic artists to use as well. I am truly inspired by how people incorporate the transfers into their work and make them their own, and in ways I never would have thought of. As a result, this little venture feels like the ultimate collaboration with a community of like-minded people who are as fanatical about surface decoration and as obsessed with underglaze transfers as I am. It's a pleasure to be able to provide a starting point, a background, or an end point as part of the overall creative process of transferring imagery to clay.
